Sic Fiat Luxe
Nox.
Nothing and Nothingness.
Emptiness and Oblivion.
In the absolute very beginning there was not even nothingness and oblivion. There was not even nothing.
Then a Voice spoke -
“Sic Fiat Luxe".
Sic: So, Thus, In This Manner
Fiat: Let There Be
Luxe: Light
This is a Latin translation of a Greek translation of a possibly Etruscian translation of something even unimaginably older. Are these the actual, true, and “real” words “spoken” at the instant of “creation"? Nobody knows. Nobody can ever know. It is, however, a somewhat reasonably accepted tradition that something was said by somebody/something at that “creation” instant. The words are traditional. It is not important what was actually said. What is important is the instantaneous act of “creation".
Creation: From nothing, something.
“Let There Be Light”
Four words in the present day common-use “English” language.
“Sic Fiat Luxe”
Three words in the ancient days common-use “Latin” language.
Either in the “English” or the “Latin” the directed intent of the words is the same - Light. This “Light” can be either metaphysical/spiritual for inner, personal “enlightenment” or it can be quite mundanely physical - basic, ordinary light by which we see.
In the last, past few weeks I have been using the short phrase “Sic Fiat Luxe” as a short form blessing. Instead of appending 2 or 3 more pages of text to an already long email or article entry I simply add “Sic Fiat Luxe". It’s simple. It’s basic. It works. It also works in the daily “Cleaning/Cleansing". “Magick” need need not always be complicated and elaborately ritualistic. It can be very simple, direct and functional. The deities and divinities do not ask for - nor do they even require - the ostentatious, elaborate ritualistic ceremonies we mortals so seem to love.
None of that overblown and quite unecessary “ceremonial ritual” is needed. I learned that several months ago. For the most part I have dispensed with much - but never quite completely all - of the “ceremonial ritual". The ritualistic ceremonial actions are for our mortal use and benefit. The deities and divinities need none of that elaborate bumph.
We humans - homo sapiens sapiens - are an apparently unique “creation". We can think, speak and write thoughts, and are seemingly self-aware. It is this sense of self-awareness that is seemingly insistent on ritualistic gratification. Wearing your wrist beads , and one ring on on the middle finger of each hand is obviously not enough frou-frou bumph for our ritual obsessed minds. We have to concoct and then enact elaborate rituals to do our spiritual and energy manipulations. We call the quarters, we cleanse the ceremonial/ritual site, we incense or smudge, we lay down circles with water and salt, we erect the momentary ‘temple’ and have to use our ritual tools to leave and enter said ‘temple’. It’s complicated.
It’s confusing. Is any of it really necessary?
Perhaps for some certain selected, specific incantations, invocations, evocations and convocations it may still be. Dealing with certain etheral entities you may well need to cast the triangle inside the circle. However, for the most part - under most ‘normal’ and ’standard’ circumstances - much of this ceremonial & ritualistic folderol can be set aside and dispensed with. I wear the wrist beads. I wear the rings. These ‘tools’ are nearly always with me as I wear them. I don’t need to fumble and bumble around and about for my wand & atheme.
For the most part I don’t need them; for the most part I no longer use them. Instead of becoming “The Complicated Witch” I’ve listened to Mistress Ravenfyre and become “The Simple Witch". Anybody remember the K.I.S.S. principle - Keep It Simple, Stupid! I’m the Paganus around here. I’m often having to keep it simple because I’m often “stupid” at times.
I use my rings and wrist-beads. For the “working” of a bit of mental light in the scholarly darkness - touch the rings, envision understanding and speak the words. Touch rings, envision and speak the words - “Sic Fiat Luxe". It’s simple. It’s basic. It works. Even this Paganus can make that bit of “magick” work!
Much of the reason for why we do all the ceremonial ritual is that it’s a mind-distraction. We are physically futzing around and about with distractions so that we can let the other brain hemisphere get to work. Think of a stage magician. Smoke and Mirrors. He puffs smoke, waves a wand, flashes images in mirrors, flutters a cloth and speaks a few ‘magickal” words and - Poof-Ka. Magic is done. You have been so busy watching the “show” you failed to notice what was really happening. This is what the human mind is doing with all of the ceremonial ritual.
In a less dramatic way that is how our bio-internal mind-brain works. We distract ourselves by doing all of these ritualistic ceremonial actions. We self-delude ourselves so we do not notice the real and actual “magic” that is occuring. So many volumes of books of magic have lists and tables and even diagrams of ritual.
Stand here, Hold this in the right hand, Hold this in the left hand, Wear this on your head with the insignia pointing to the left, while saying the following while hopping first on the right foot then the left foot - and do it all in the nude at midnight. Yeah Right. Did it actually accomplish anything ‘magickal’ - or did you just ‘feel good’ by ‘doing something magickal’? I’m your Paganus. I’ve been here online for how many years now? How many ‘workings” have have I written and posted/shared here? I’ve just given You another.
1) Touch rings.
2) Envision/Visualize.
3) Speak words.
Very, Very simple.
Very, Very effective.
It’s “magick” of the highest, primal sort. It’s “low-end” as well as “high-end” “magick” at the same time. It’s practical. It’s functional. It works.
I shall - most hopefully??? - return here next week with “Globus Securitas / Scutum".
“Sic Fiat Luxe".
Namaste.
