Walking with Spirit

I am a Draconis.
I am not a Humanis Sapiens.
I am a Dragon.
I have wings, scales and a tail.
I exist - if only in what some of what you ‘humans’
might prefer to consider fantasy and mythology.
I am not the Dark and Evil Destroyer of crops,
herds, virgins and villages. I never did that.
My clutch and clan-mates never did that.
You ‘humans’ did that. Nature did that.
We Draconis did not.
In my warm, safe, dry and quite secure Lair I watch
and observe you ‘humans’. You developed first the
printing press. That was impressive. For the first time
written words could be shared with multiple readers.
No longer were the writings of the sages and mages limited to
hand-scribe copies. Centuries later you invented the telegraph.
Words came from miles away through wires and dots and dashes.
This was a major advance in distance communication.
Then soon after came radio, motion pictures, television,
and now the online Internet. Aside from fire - which admittedly
your most ancient of ancestors needed help with - you have progressed
steadily. There were false steps and innumerable misters - but as a
species your persevered and prospered. You domesticated the dog.
A most wise and functional act even by Draconis standards. You then
learned herding and shepherding. That proved invaluable for many
reasons.
The use of language developed. Guttural Grunts may not be the
language of the Poets but is was clearly a start. The need for a
village soon
followed. That meant you could farm and till the land. Again it was
crude by
modern industrial standards but you learned.
Centuries and millennia passed.
Villages became Cities.
Cities became City-States. You were on your way.
We Draconis have been around for far longer than you have.
Recently in a TV programme there was a ‘Quest for Dragons’.
Fascinating it was - though not very informative or accurate.
We are not Dinosaurs. As Draconis we have been around since long
before the dinosaurs. 350 million years ago a trilobyte scuttled
across the shallows of a salty protected ocean inlet.
Reptiles developed from this world’s earliest days.
Mammals came many millions of years later. As your ‘human’
archaeologists and paleontologists have shown the earliest of proto
primitive forebears only extended back 3.5 to 4 million years.
We Draconis have been around - as a species - vastly longer than that.
It was your ‘human’ ’shamans’ - thousands of your ‘human’ years ago
- who discovered the ’spirit’ world. We Draconis have known of the
spirits since well before you soft-skies first appeared. Yet it was you
‘humans’who took living and working with the spirits to a new level.
You developed religion.
We Draconis are more than half-spiritual. You ‘humans’ are of the
physical world. We Draconis are astride the physical and spiritual.
For meditations not easy and has to be taught and learned.
For we Draconis it’s as ordinary an action for us as reading your
morning newspaper is for you. We walk with the spirits because we are
more than
half-spirit ourselves. In time so too will you ‘humans’ be able to do
this.
