Editorial Review: Church of Satan Interview
Editorial Review: Church of Satan Interview
By Mistress Ravenfyre
Although it was great to have someone interviewed from the Church of Satan, I am personally disappointed in the repetitive answers that were given by Church of Satans very own, Les Hernandez.
While reading the interview I nearly did not publish the interview. Why? The interview was dry, repetitive and redundant. The overall tone of the interview seemed in my opinion like a “drone” that had a script and was sticking to it. There was an arrogance, no, a patronizing feel to the entire interview. Somewhat like an adult talking to a very small child.
Now, I realize that Mystic Witch is a wee site yet I personally feel that the questions should have been answered. Not over shadowed with fluff. Sounded more like Glenda the Good Witch. Why am I comparing the two you might ask? It was the overwhelming colorization that was given. I expected to see a “Harm None” or a “So Mote It Be” in this interview somewhere.
Before publishing this interview, I showed it to a few Satanists that I know. Each one had a different reaction. The reactions ranged from laughter to anger. One went so far as calling it a “snow job". The A Typical publicist giving details yet not giving information. Good public relations in other words.
The same answers were given over and over again. As if saying that our viewers were “stupid” and would only understand if told the same information repeatedly. This is not the case. Arrogance is one thing, but condescending tones are not acceptable.
Why when asked if his faith had benefited Mr. Hernandez in any way was not answered? Instead the answer was a circle of nothing once again. Question unanswered. To me it was a simple question, why not answer it? Thinking back, maybe it was an oversight on his part. You see it had to be explained all over again about the religion. Give it up, please.
Now, the next issue that I laughed at was the bit about the memberships. “Bringing to the table” was the statement used. Yes, for $200 you can purchase a membership. With the membership you receive an “embossed crimson card". Then if you wish to become an “Active Member” you have to fill out an application. Questions such as: Define Satan
Describe the car you drive and also the ideal car
Do you have any tangible services or resources which you would care to contribute
There are approximately 40 questions to be filled out, then sign the application and send with a photo. Don’t forget your payment, it is a “Lifetime Amount". At least you do not have to worry about renewal fees.
Now was that so hard to answer about memberships?
I hope that our readers are able to salvage something from this interview. All I know is that I was not alone in feeling that this was a farce. If the Church of Satan wishes to represent themselves in a manner to improve their credibility and reputation, then maybe answering questions might be in order. Not simply stating over and over they are a religion, they are worshiping themselves as God figures and that others are stupid, unlike them.
Hmm, this is the same way Foamy, the High Priest-Warlock of the Squirrels feels.
What did I gain from this interview? Nothing.
It does not reflect the overall feelings of any others associated with Mystic Witch. This is an observation only
